For this week’s Oily post, I want to walk you through the Young Living Premium Starter Kit (PSK). This is the starter kit that I keep talking about, and I realized that some of you might not know much about it! For me, getting the PSK really helped me start learning about oils and how to use them. I kept reading about different ones, but I have found that oils are much easier to learn about while using them.
Also, when you buy a PSK, you become a Young Living member and get access to private Facebook groups with other Young Living members. These groups are awesome because people are constantly sharing recipes and new ways to use their oils! It’s also a really fun and friendly community, which makes it really easy to ask questions.
So, what comes in the PSK? Good question! ELEVEN different oils, a diffuser, and a bunch of other samples and things to get you started. And (as I said before), you are then a Young Living member, which means that you get any other oils you order at the wholesale price (24% off).
Now that you know what comes in the PSK, I’m going to give you an overview of each of those ELEVEN oils. Sound good? Great. Let’s dive in!
Lavender is one oil that I use every. single. day. Lavender’s most common use is for winding down and relaxing before bedtime, but it has other uses too! Add it to your favorite hair, body, and beauty products for a nourishing and calming effect throughout the day. Mix it with coconut oil and vitamin E, and apply topically, if you get too much sun. Add it to mascara for healthy, fabulous looking lashes. Mix it with coconut oil and use to moisturize lips. Mix it with Epsom salts for a soothing tub soak. So many uses! I made a (diluted) roller for Beckett that we use as part of his bedtime routine.
Lemon can be used to boost energy, detox, relieve bloating, provide nasal support, and for in home cleaning! Lemon in water is an awesome way to start your day. A few drops in a glass of water provide natural cleansing to your liver, kidneys, and digestive system. It also gives you a natural boost of energy and immunity support and sets you up to attain healthy weight management goals! Fun Fact: Lemon is great for getting sticky labels off glass, or removing crayon/pen/sharpie marks! (Filing that tip away for when Beckett is older…)
Peppermint was the first oil that I ever used, and is the reason I became a believer (not to be confused with Belieber…that’s different). Peppermint can be used to support healthy bowel and digestive function, help with trouble going to the bathroom, to relieve gas or occasional heartburn, as a natural breath freshener, to relieve occasional soreness, to alleviate nausea, to support proper joint and cartilage function, and to suppress appetite. I’m telling you, it does EVERYTHING.
I’ve talked to y’all about this one before. Copaiba is steam distilled from the gum resin of its tree and has a pleasant, complex taste. It has become Beckett’s FAVORITE part of bedtime. He literally giggles when he sees me unscrew the cap. It’s great for soothing babies’ gums, supports sore joints, muscles, and ligaments after working out or heavy activity, magnifies the properties of other oils, and alleviates nervous energy and promotes calmness.
The more I learn about Frankincense, the more I understand why I keep seeing memes like this one:
It does ALL. THE. THINGS. Frank supports healthy skin when applied topically, promotes feelings of calmness and balance, increases spiritual awareness, helps smooth the appearance of healthy-looking aging skin, alleviates nervous energy when rubbed on the bottom of feet, and moisturizes skin.
PanAway might just become your best friend. It is a perfect companion after a workout (if you do that), or a lifesaver for those days that you’ve overexerted yourself physically (like after chasing a toddler). This blend of Wintergreen, Helichrysum, Clove, and Peppermint essential oils can be used in a massage to help ease muscle discomfort. Mix with a carrier oil in a roller bottle to take on the go or put in your workout bag (if you have one of those…).
Digize is a blend of Ginger, Anise, Fennel, Peppermint, Tarragon, Lemongrass, Patchouli, and Juniper essential oils, which was formulated to support healthy digestion. Its rich, unique aroma and taste can be calming and comforting. It helps alleviate nausea and upset stomach, supports a healthy immune system, is useful for occasional irregularity or constipation, can offer relief from occasional heartburn, and alleviates fullness, bloating and occasional gas from overeating.
This oil has many uses (don’t they all?!). Purification, a blend of Citronella, Lemongrass, Lavandin, Rosemary, Tea Tree, and Myrtle essential oils, neutralizes, purifies, and cleanses lingering odors. Put a few drops in shoes, the bottom of the trashcan, or the vacuum to neutralize odors. Diffuse to freshen stale air. Add to your daily facial cleansing regimen to moisturize your skin.
R.C. is a blend of Spruce, Cyprus, and three types of Eucalyptus (E. Globulus, E. Radiata, and E. Citriodora) essential oils and packs a big punch! Its robust scent is a great way to perk up and its energetic aroma will help you stay motivated throughout the day. One sniff and you’ll know why people don’t want to find themselves without this blend. Place a few drops in a hot bath or shower to let the combination of R.C. and warm water calm and soothe you. Apply topically to support an energized workout, or combine with V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex for a post-exercise foot or back massage. Mix with a carrier oil and rub on your chest to help support a healthy respiratory system.
Thieves is one of Young Living’s most popular oil blends and has a warm, spicy scent and flavor. This blend was inspired by the legend of four 15th century French thieves who formulated a special aromatic combination composed of clove, rosemary, and other botanicals they used while robbing the dead and dying (creepy, but cool). This proprietary blend of Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus Radiata, and Rosemary essential oils helps support a healthy immune system and promotes overall wellness.
Here’s a few ways to use it: Apply a drop to your feet every morning and diffuse every night to support a healthy immune system. Mix one drop each of Thieves Vitality and Lemon Vitality with a teaspoon of raw honey for a soothing and delicious treat. Add a drop or two to a cup of warm water to make a spicy, delicious tea. My favorite way to use Thieves is in cleaning. I made my own all purpose cleaning spray and I LOVE it!!
Stress Away is my new jam. I love it so much that I’ve started to wear it as perfume. It smells amazing. In addition to the great smell, this blend of Copaiba, Lime, Vanilla, Cedarwood, Ocotea, and Lavender essential oils helps reduce nervous tension and induce relaxation, and brings relief to everyday stresses we all feel. Apply it to kids to calm them on rough days. Mix with Epsom salts to create a spa-like bath experience. Diffuse with Lavender to relax the family after a long day.
